We will be taking a deep dive into the anatomy and function of the feet and lower legs, often referred to as the foundation of posture. Michael will be working with a model in his clinic to provide real time BodyReading postural assessment, movement assessments, and strategies based on the patterns relative to the feet and legs which are of deep clinical relevance to movement practitioners and manual therapists.
The topics we will cover are:
- Overview of the feet in terms of form and function
- The feet as they relate to posture and movement, with samples of tilts and rotations
- Common patterns related to the feet – BodyReading postural assessment of major features
- Soft tissue contributions to patterns in terms of the Anatomy Trains lines and discussion of strategy for resolving patterns
- How the arches act in walking and standing and their relationship to the pelvis and the AT lines
- How to balance the support the arches receive from the long muscles of the calf
- Effective strategies to unwind rotational compensations in the foot, the tibia-fibula complex and the knee.
- Learn how the structures of the knee and thigh co-operate to achieve this and learn to recognize some of the structural dysfunctions that can occur.

- Movement and manual strategies for balance and adaptability
