Welcome to Maine

Anatomy Trains is located in mid-coastal Maine, 7.5 miles from the village of Damariscotta, where you will find most everything to meet your basic needs: a supermarket, health food store, pharmacy, a basic clothing shop, bookstore, & hardware store. There are several local restaurants within a 10-mile radius.

We are located about 1.5 hours drive from Portland, so allow for this in your travel time getting here and going home.

Driving Directions to Walpole, Maine

From Boston, MA

Driving time to Walpole from Boston: 3 1/4 hours. Following is a synopsis of the drive from Logan Airport to Damariscotta, the nearest town to Walpole. We suggest you consult www.mapquest.com for detailed driving instructions.

As you exit the airport, take I-90 East (Massachusetts Turnpike) to Route 1-A north for 2.4 miles to Mass. Route 60 West. Take 60 west a short distance to U.S. Route 1 North, and then to I-95 North for 84 miles. In Maine, take Exit 44: (I-295 North) 28 miles to Exit 28 U.S. 1 (Brunswick/Bath). Stay on U.S. 1 North (notice sign for Rockland/Wiscasset) driving approximately 30 miles to Business Route 1 in Damariscotta (look for signs for Routes 129 and 130).

From Portland, ME

Driving time to Walpole: about 1 1/2 hours. The Portland Jetport is situated between I-95 and I-295. Follow the road signs to either route going north; they merge north of Portland (note that I-95 requires a toll). Follow I-295 North. Drive to Exit 28 U.S. 1 (Brunswick/Bath). Stay on U.S. 1 North (notice sign for Rockland/Wiscasset) driving approximately 30 miles to Business Route 1 in Damariscotta (look for signs for Routes 129 and 130).

Detailed Driving Directions from Damariscotta to Walpole

Take Business Route 1 through Newcastle toward the village of Damariscotta. You’ll make a wide right turn at a big red brick church, then pass over a low bridge. This is Main Street. Continue through the business district of town and turn right at the traffic light in front of a large white church at the top of the hill (this is the Bristol Road; Route 129/130). Drive for 3 miles until Route 129 splits off on the right (Hanley’s Market is on the left). Follow Route 129 for 3.4 miles. The golf course will be on your left. Look for the blue and white Darling Marine Center sign and a red Kinesis sign, and make a right turn onto Clarks Cove Road.

There is dependable bus transportation from Boston’s Logan International Airport. Scheduled buses run every hour to the bus station in Portland, ME and twice daily to Damariscotta, ME. Amtrak operates the Downeaster train service from Boston’s North Station to the Portland station (www.thedowneaster.com), where it is possible to catch a bus (or a ride, see below).

From Logan Airport (BOS)

Concord Trailways bus service will pick up and drop off passengers from each terminal en route to Portland or the coastal towns of Maine. The latter makes a stop in Damariscotta, the closest town to Walpole, where our classes are held. Look for buses marked “Maine Coast.” A complete schedule is available at http://www.concordcoachlines.com/ or by calling (800) 639-3317. Note: You can only buy bus tickets by presenting a photo ID. The buses are equipped with WiFi.
