Part 1: Core Truth: Surgical & Minimally Invasive Breakthroughs for Fascia and Core Injuries with Dr. Anthony Scillia, MD, and Tom Myers
Your core is more than muscle, it’s the command center of your movement, power, and stability. But when the fascia and supporting structures of the core are injured, every step, lift, and twist may be compromised.
In this powerful session, Dr. Scillia will back the curtain on how core and fascial injuries happen, how they’re diagnosed, and how modern medicine can restore strength and performance faster than ever. You’ll see the journey from the first clinical exam to state-of-the-art imaging, from surgical theaters to minimally invasive suites—learning exactly how fascia and core structures are repaired, protected, and returned to peak function.
Whether you’re a medical professional, rehab specialist, personal trainer, performance coach, or massage therapist, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of how precision surgery and minimally invasive techniques are changing the game in core injury recovery—and how to integrate this knowledge into your treatment, training, and prevention strategies.
Learning Objectives
Assess with precision: Learn the signs, symptoms, and advanced imaging strategies used to accurately identify core and fascial injuries.
Understand surgical repair: Explore how open surgical procedures address severe core and fascial damage—and the key decision-making factors that determine the surgical approach.
Master minimally invasive options: Discover how cutting-edge, less-invasive techniques are reducing recovery times, minimizing scarring, and improving long-term outcomes.
Integrate rehab and prevention: Learn how to bridge the gap between surgical intervention, rehabilitation, and performance restoration to protect against reinjury.
Empower patient outcomes: Gain the language, tools, and strategies to educate patients and athletes on their injury, recovery pathway, and the role of fascia in full-body performance.
Hands-On Practical Presentation: “Core Command: Unlocking the True Power of Movement Through Stability, Mobility & Control with Alex Leto, DPT of Alliance Orthopedics
The core isn’t just about abs—it’s the central command center of human movement. It links the ribcage and pelvis, balances mobility with control, and creates the foundation for both injury prevention and elite performance.
In this high-impact presentation, Alex Leto, DPT, of Alliance Orthopedics pulls back the curtain on what truly drives core functionality. Whether you’re working with post-rehab patients, elite athletes, or everyday movers, this session will teach you how to assess and optimize the local and global contributors to core stability—so your clients can move better, feel stronger, and perform at their highest level.
You’ll dive deep into the integration of mobility, motor control, and capacity—and learn how disruptions in any of these areas can lead to chronic pain, compensation patterns, or performance plateaus. More importantly, you’ll walk away with a proven, multidisciplinary approach to restoring functional synergy between the upper and lower halves of the body.
This isn’t a sit-and-listen lecture. It’s a strategy session designed to give you tools that translate immediately to the clinic, weight room, training floor, and treatment table.
Learning Objectives:
- Define the relationship between the ribcage, pelvis, and spine—and how the core functions as a dynamic force transmitter across the kinetic chain.
- Differentiate between local and global movement systems—and understand how mobility, coordination, and tissue capacity must work together to maintain core integrity.
- Identify common dysfunctions that lead to core-related injuries, including faulty breathing mechanics, hip-spine dissociation issues, and lumbopelvic instability.
- Apply movement strategies that restore alignment, neuromuscular control, and load management to reduce injury risk and improve performance.
- Integrate assessments and interventions from physical therapy, strength & conditioning, and manual therapy to create a cohesive, individualized plan for your clients and athletes.

Part 2: The Hidden Engine of Spinal Power: Surgical & Clinical Insights into the Thoracolumbar Fascia withDr. Shalin Patel, Orthopedic Spine Surgeon of Alliance Orthopedics, and Tom Myers
What if the key to unlocking spinal strength, stability, and injury recovery isn’t found in the vertebrae—but in the fascia that holds it all together?
In this groundbreaking session, Dr. Shalin Patel, a leading orthopedic spine surgeon at Alliance Orthopedics, takes you deep inside the thoracolumbar fascia—the unsung hero of human movement and spinal health. With the precision of a surgeon and the passion of a coach, Dr. Patel will reveal real-world case studies and surgical experiences that expose how fascial dysfunction can lead to back pain, poor movement mechanics, and even surgical intervention.
In addition to exploring the clinical and functional significance of this powerful fascial plane, Dr. Patel will unveil the latest in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques designed to preserve thoracolumbar fascia integrity and facilitate faster recovery for patients undergoing lumbar procedures. From advanced microdiscectomies to cutting-edge posterior approaches, you’ll learn how preserving fascial continuity can dramatically enhance post-op healing and long-term performance.
You’ll leave with a strategic blueprint to help your patients and athletes return stronger, faster, and more functionally powerful than ever—armed with insights that bridge the surgical table to the rehab floor.
This isn’t theory—it’s transformation.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the role of the thoracolumbar fascia in spinal stability, force transmission, and kinetic chain coordination—from the surgical table to the rehab floor.
- Explore real-world case studies of injuries, tears, adhesions, and surgical procedures involving the thoracolumbar fascia—unpacking how fascia dysfunction contributes to chronic low back pain, poor glute activation, and compensatory breakdowns.
- Learn surgical insights: Examine the fascial considerations in procedures such as lumbar decompression, posterior instrumentation, microdiscectomy, and minimally invasive techniques—and understand how surgical approaches can impact fascial health, post-op function, and recovery timelines.
- Bridge surgery with movement: Discover how movement professionals and therapists can align fascial recovery protocols with surgical outcomes to accelerate healing, restore neuromuscular synergy, and future-proof performance.
- Elevate your clinical edge: Gain tools, language, and actionable strategies to educate patients and clients on the role of fascia in both injury and high-level recovery—with an emphasis on preserving thoracolumbar fascia integrity during surgical interventions for optimal results.
Hands-On Practical Presentation: Unlocking the Power of the Posterior Sling: The Thoracolumbar Fascia Advantage with AJ Gains, DPT, of Alliance Orthopedics
If you’re a coach, therapist, or trainer who’s serious about unlocking next-level human performance, this session is your game-changer. Discover the untapped potential of the thoracolumbar fascia—the hidden powerhouse that connects the glutes and lats to drive force, coordination, and explosive rotational power. This isn’t just anatomy—it’s a roadmap to better biomechanics, smarter movement, and elite-level performance. Get ready to rewire your understanding of functional output and resilience from the inside out.
