Our focus in this first course in the Manual NVR series will be the neck, head, and upper thorax, including the brachial plexus, shoulder girdle, rib cage, and lungs.
We will work gently and precisely with the vascular system to normalize tone in hypertonic muscles that are shortening the myofascial tracks, distorting posture, and limiting movement.
We will work with restrictions of the cervical plexus, brachial plexus, intercostal nerves, accessory nerve, vagus nerve, phrenic nerve, and dura with the goals of reducing pain and improving structural and functional balance.
You will also:
• learn to use less physical effort
• become more efficient
• learn new strategies for classic problems
• improve your layer palpation
• grow your ability to meet the needs of sensitively-tuned individuals
• pace your work to provide integration within the session
• learn to use (or refine your ability in using) “general listening” and other assessment methods borrowed from osteopathy.
As you add techniques to your tool bag, we will discuss applications and strategies for working with clients who have specific mobility problems and imbalances related to thoracic outlet syndrome, whiplash, jaw issues, shoulder injuries, heart or breast surgery, hypermobility, and scoliosis.
Over time, your clients or patients will notice improved proprioception, interoception, and nervous system regulation, and they will grow in their appreciation for how smart and adaptive their bodies are.
Prerequisite: This course is for all licensed manual therapists, including structural integrators, massage therapists, physiotherapists, physical therapists, osteopaths, and acupuncturists.
Support throughout this course and in the months following:
Tuition includes small group and private mentoring and ongoing opportunities for review in
addition to the regular class hours. To support multiple learning styles, you will have:
• Early and ongoing access to online videos documenting all the techniques and lessons from
your live course. These are edited to help you locate specific techniques.
• Fifteen-minute mentoring sessions via Zoom, each focused on one client case, scheduled
as needed throughout the year after your course has been completed.
• Subscription to the NVR Community Seminar Series — a series of live discussions scheduled approximately eight times per year with a choice of two different session times to accommodate your schedule. Sessions are recorded in case you can’t attend live.
