Pelvis in Motion: The Dynamic Center of Locomotion

The pelvis is often assessed and thought of from its static position. The pelvis in motion is anything but static.

Pelvis in Motion explores the pelvis as a dynamic center of human movement: receiving forces from both gravity and the ground, adapting to movement from both the bottom up and the top down.

Building upon sensory and gait concepts introduced in the first Longevity in Motion webinar, this course moves upward from the feet to examine the three-dimensional movement of the pelvis during walking. Participants will explore pelvic rotation, tilt, translation, hip mechanics, sacral movement, and the relationship between the hip bones, sacrum, and lumbar spine through an Anatomy Trains lens.

Particular attention will be given to the relationship of the hip bones and sacrum as adaptable structures rather than one that needs to be held in one ideal position. We will investigate how limitations influence movement above and below the pelvis and how the nervous system, sensory input, fascial relationships, and movement history contribute to the strategies we see.

Through body reading, gait observation, movement exploration, and hands-on techniques, participants will develop practical ways to assess and restore more options for dynamic movement.

The goal is not to create a “perfect pelvis,” but a pelvis capable of adapting, transferring force, and moving in relationship with the whole body.
