Athletes and movement professionals in search of optimum performance are hearing more and more about ground reaction forces—the way we use the ground to create external force while responding to gravity’s pull on us. It is working on us ‘for better or for worse’, so companies are starting to market technology touting the ability to measure these forces.

Your body’s manner of distributing the large forces generated in a golf swing is determined by myofascial balance around the skeleton and joints. Imbalances concentrate forces, leading to adhesions and ultimately injuries – and at minimum restricted power and speed where you need it.

Tom Myers will lead us through the anatomy of the swing, the anatomy of accelerating rotation. Through understanding the limbs, trunk, and spinal coordination of rotation, we can see where the swing is restricted by lack of easy accommodation.

Leading Golf Instructor Michael Jacobs will help you gain an advanced understanding of how ground reaction forces work and what various pieces of new technology can (and can’t) do. This understanding can help practitioners lead clients to better performance and less risk of injury. You will see the contributions of ground reaction forces in standing, jumping and the golf swing along with an analysis of how these relate to human movement.

Michael Jacobs collaborates with Dr. Steven Nesbit on groundbreaking research and the practical application of sports movement science at Jacobs’ studio in Long Island, New York, utilizing their proprietary sports movement analysis platform.

Tom Myers is the author of Anatomy Trains (5th ed. 2026), a popular text for understanding movement connections. Tom and his faculty teach the new biomechanics for manual and movement therapists worldwide.

This course will be provided over Zoom webinar with live chat and Q&A.
