Presented by Tom Myers and Kimberly Johnson, CSB, SEP, SIP
Explore the rich depths of the pelvis with bodywork, movement, and self-experience, with Tom Myers, manual therapist, and Kimberly Johnson, founder of Magamama. The pelvis is the cradle of life, and because of its associations with sex and the rest of the ‘down there’ issues, it is a difficult area for both the client and the bodyworker or trainer – learn to navigate the whole area with confidence.
Proper pelvic balance is vital to health of the spine, our organs, sexuality – and also in ‘emotional intelligence’. Sexual trauma, the wounds of childbirth, surgeries, and the challenges to the post-menopausal pelvis are our primary focus. (Most of the applications in this workshop apply to men as well).
Learn to ‘midwife’ more balance and openness in the muscles close to the hip joint, the pelvic floor, and low back through movements, stretch, and manual therapy techniques.
We will cover:
- Pelvic types in childbirth
- The balance of pelvic ligaments and menstruation
- The muscular pelvic floor vs the fascial pelvic floor in ‘core support’
- Organ attachments and pelvic pain
- Recovery from birth events
- Recovery from sexual trauma and moving with a ’sex-positive’ pelvis
- The journey of the baby in utero, in both, and after
- A full understanding of the psoas complex, deep lateral rotators, and adductor group
- Applications to yoga, bodywork, strengthening, and breath
No prerequisites. Most of the applications in this workshop apply to men as well as women—all are welcome.

Kimberly Ann Johnson specializes in helping women heal from birth injuries, birth traumas, and sexual boundary ruptures. She works at the intersection of pelvic, gynecological, and sexual health.
As a longtime yoga teacher and Structural Integration practitioner (SIP), her body and life changed dramatically after having a baby. Told she needed a full pelvic floor reconstruction surgery, she traveled the world learning postpartum practices and healed herself from prolapse, hemorrhoids, constant low back and sacral pain, and painful sex.
She went on to train in Sexological Bodywork, Somatic Experiencing trauma resolution therapy, and Birth Story Medicine to offer holistic care, specializing in the remediation of scar tissue. Kimberly has served over 800 women with private practices in Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver, Chicago, and San Diego, her hometown.
Rejecting the reduction of postpartum health to a mental health problem, she wrote the best-selling The Fourth Trimester: A Postpartum Guide to Healing Your Body, Balancing Your Emotions, and Restoring Your Vitality.
