Magnus Eklund (LMT MS 144, AL 4348, FL MA 98151, BCSI, ISSA – CPT, CYT & CES), is a Structural Integrator, yoga instructor, and personal trainer specializing in Myofascial balance, posture improvement, pain relief, functional movement and strength. He has been a provider of Myofascial Therapy in Mississippi since 1994. In the 1996 Olympic Games Magnus was an official selection to the athletes medical team and worked there providing sports massage to professional tennis players.
Magnus has had an interest in movement since early in his life. This led him to become a collegiate tennis player, yoga practitioner, and runner. A back injury in 1993 from tennis ended his professional tennis aspirations and introduced him to Structural Integration, which is influenced by the myofascial and movement work of Dr. Ida P. Rolf. After a year of chronic low back pain, 10 sessions with a Structural Integration practitioner allowed him to regain free use of his body. This experience led him to pursue studies with Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains™ and become a board certified Structural Integrator. (Magnus became an Advanced Structural Integrator with the Guild of Structural Integration in Kuai, Hawaiii. His teacher, Emmett Hutchins, was the protégé of Dr. Rolf and had a great influence on Magnus’ work. His studies in joint range of motion with Dean Juhan (Author of Job’s Body), the protégé of Dr. Milton Trager, has provided a great lighter compliment to his myofascial work. Magnus has also completed studies with the Dr Uppledger Institute in Craniosacral Therapy and with the Dr Barrall Institute in Visceral fascial work.)
Magnus received his training in the healing arts during the last 25 years in the US and Sweden. Magnus holds a degree from Lillsved Gymnastic Institute of Higher Learning of Varmdo, Sweden in Recreational and Sports Leadership. His education included exercise physiology, sports administration, anatomy and physiology, sports methodology, psychology, therapeutic movement, kinesiology, and more.
Magnus is an ISSA personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist and yoga teacher. He studied with Kelly Starrett of The Ready State to become a Mobility and movement coach. Magnus has studied many movement modalities such as Pilates, Feldenkrais™, running and yoga.
Magnus is utilizing Active Isolated and PNF stretching to improve performance, flexibility and movement. <He is certified by Aaron Mathis a kinesiologist and one of the most well-known teacher of AIS>. Magnus works with a wide range of clients, from NFL players to people with no athletic experience.
Magnus helps clients with PERFORMANCE, PAIN RELIEF and to improve POSTURE and MOBILITY. Magnus is not providing a traditional relaxation massage. Structural Integration works with the fascial system to get you the lasting results you have been looking for. The work is results oriented, specific, and involves active movement.
WHY IS FASCIA IMPORTANT? Fascia is a seamless web of collagenous connective tissue interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery, and vein as well as all internal organs, including the brain and spinal cord. It is a system of an interconnected web without separate coverings that exists from head to foot without interruption, much like the yarn in a sweater, or a 3D spider web. Restrictions in fascia caused by injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can spread to other places in the body, like a pull of the yarn in a sweater. Healthy fascia reduces inflammation and promotes PAIN RELIEF.
HOW DO WE WORK WITH FASCIA? You might have noticed that both overactivity and inactivity can cause poor posture, mobility problems, and even pain. When fascia gets in a shortened state, the body creates adhesions that limit fascia’s ability to lengthen, which will cause limited mobility. In our myofascial and structural integration sessions, we use hands-on manipulations to work with the fascial layers from superficial to deep. We break up the adhesions in the fascia where it can be stuck to the bone. This allows the fascia to open to its full capacity and improves mobility.
Studies by Dr. Langevin at Harvard University have shown that the fascia can lengthen up to 75% in people with healthy backs, as opposed to less than 50% in people who have a tight, painful back. The research demonstrates that tightness in the fascial layers can be a prominent cause of back pain and back injury. In other words, when you find yourself with hunched over shoulders, sunken gut, one leg launched out to the side, or your neck twisted, we are the people to see! We have the skills to rearrange this fascial bag that is holding you in a certain pattern. You are being pulled down by gravity; our method helps you fight that postural battle.
Magnus is committed to providing the absolute highest quality healing work through his continued studies and involvement in the alternative health arena.
