Breath – The River of Life
Presented by Tom Myers at the Art of Living Retreat Center

A continuous wave from our first intake to our last exhale, our oh-so ’natural’ breath is an intricate dance of psychology, physiology, and movement.  17,000 x / day, each breath moves over 100 joints, and all your organs respond. Your kidneys travel a quarter of a mile a day, moving up and down your spine at 12 x / minute. Come explore the full anatomy of respiration from nose to toes. How does the breath interact with emotion, exertion, and chronic stress?

Explore the anatomy of breath, what impedes into a full inhale, and the importance of the complete out-breath to our autonomic balance.  Learn tools to use your breath to resolve and ‘handle’ stress and build resilience.  Use movement and manual cueing to balance breath movements through the four distinct sections of the rib ‘basket’.  Free to the roots of breath via the quadratus lumborum and psoas, at the top of the breath via the neck.

This workshop is intended for movement professionals and manual bodyworkers, but people with an interest in anatomy and how our mind-body works are welcome.

Note that there will be no diagnostic or treatment recommendations given in this class.
