Shape matters. This little girl not only has a different shape at the end of her Structural Integration 'yoga' - she has a different affect. Learning to stretch is something a contortionist can do. The inner learning represented in these pictures is an aspect of spiritual development - an ignored aspect in our contemporary culture.
Yoga works on changing our internal shape by stretching the fibers to redirect fluids and energies. As such, it is a very powerful tool in what I call 'Spatial Medicine'. What can you change within a human being by working on how he or she is internally shaped? What are the parameters of such inner spatial relationships? Hatha yoga is a long-term exploration of that question.
