Anatomical Links

Anatomy... what more can be said? It all starts and ends here, doesn't it? Certainty and mystery. Enjoy your explorations.

www.activebirthcentre.com - A very comprehensive site about water birthing, containing information about classes and trainings, sales and hiring, and online learning.

www.alexgrey.com - If Vesalius and Dali got to collaborate they might maybe begin to approximate the poetry and astounding anatomical accuracy of the paintings of Alex Grey. Before we had any sort of elaborate, 3D, computer-generated images, we had Alex's sublime visions and keen brushstrokes to inspire and enlighten us. Thank you, Mr. Grey.

www.anatomicaltravel.com
- Home of the radical visionary Alexander Tsiaras (think the lovechild of Gunther von Hagens and Alex Grey - and born with x-ray video eyes!) whose stated mission is to provide the world with the "most accurate and artistic 3D animations of human anatomy", this site presents stunning views of the body in action. Of most interest will be the "Our Work" section.

www.anatomylab.com
- A great anatomical dissection site with some truly challenging quizzes (and some fun jigsaw puzzles!), this site is geared to both students and teachers of anatomy. Not To Be Missed: The section on fascial planes located in the Digital Photo Archive.

www.astonenterprises.com - Judith Aston's comprehensive site contains information, not only about Aston Patterning, but also about Aston Fitness, The Aston Line and about Movement Projects, Inc. You can also register for classes and locate a Practitioner in your area.

http://biology.about.com/library/weekly/aa011801a.htm - Learn about connective tissue and countless other topics on this amazing site.

www.bodyworlds.com - The father of plastination and dissector extraordinaire Gunther von Hagens can be found here along with up-to-date information on his Bodyworlds traveling exhibit.

www.constructal.org - Constructal Theory, has been used very successfully by Adrian Bejan & James H. Mardens to 'construct' animal movement from new thermodynamics theory.

www.golten.co.uk - To read more about Rober Golten's Hellerwork practice, check out this site.

www.innerbody.com - A system-by-system virtual A/P atlas, rendered in a simple, colorful digital style. The Animations section is a real highlight of this site.

www.integralnaked.org - "Integral Naked is the world’s first multimedia portal into Integral Consciousness, featuring hundreds of hours of audio and video conversations with today’s greatest thinkers, leaders, artists, and visionaries. Often moderated by Ken Wilber, these discussions span a wide range of topics--including spirituality, sexuality, psychology, ecology, art, business, and politics."

www.intensiondesigns.com - "This site is devoted to the new research and specifically outlines a biotensegrity description of anatomical structure. Tensegrity forms can model human anatomy based on a systems approach to biomechanics, and suggest a new approach to diagnostics and treatment based upon a scientific understanding of structure."

http://www.intothecool.com - "Into The Cool," by Eric D. Schneider and Dorion Sagan. No math, tremendous depth & erudition in this book.

http://www.massagemag.com - Visit the MASSAGE Magazine's official website for news, articles, and information about massage and techniques; exclusive online features; massage research; business tips; self-care tips; resources, such as associations by category; and the latest massage-related products in our annual Buyer’s Guide.

www.med.harvard.edu/AANLIB/home.html - For those of you stuck in your head we offer the most comprehensive atlas of brain anatomy that we've yet to find, courtesy of the Harvard Medical School.

www.meddean.luc.edu/lumen - The website for Loyola University, Chicago. Look for the Cross-Section Tutorial button on the lower half of your screen and experience a true tour-de-force of the human body. Simple lines drawings of the body (i.e., upper limb, et.al.) allow you to both keep your orientation and select the precise layer that you wish to view. Click on the layer and voila! There's the relevant cross section (courtesy of the Visible Human Project). Another button allows you to view a CT scan of the same area and with another click of the mouse you can identify the structures within each cross-section. Bravo!
(NOTE: While some sections on this website are password protected, the cross-section area is open to all. Thank you Loyola).

http://www.msjensen.gen.umn.edu/webanatomy - Courtesy of the University of Minnesota for freshman anatomy and physiology majors, this site is chock-a-block full of quizzes, games and essays of all types for every system in the human body. Not To Be Missed: the amazing "cosmic zoom"-style animation of muscle contraction located in the Muscular System section.

http://multimedia.mcb.harvard.edu - These astonishing videos are produced via the HHMI/Provost Multimedia Project.

http://www.neurodynamicsolutions.com/home.html
Michael Shacklock has developed a method of treatment and written a book entitled Clinical Neurodynamics describing this method. The reader is introduced to new diagnostic and treatment techniques using neurodynamic testing and movements.

www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/visible_human.html - Who says governments never do anything useful? Welcome to the repository for the knowledge gleaned by The National Library of Medicine's Visible Human Project. This was the research project where a healthy (albeit one-testicled), young (twentyish) death-row inmate was freeze-dried and cross-sectioned millimeter by millimeter. These slices were then scanned into a computer after which they were studied and manipulated in all manner of interesting ways. Enjoy the fruits of their labors and your tax dollars here.

http://northatlanticbooks.com/store/1556436238.html - Check out this link to North Atlantic Books, which contains a comprehensive list of titles you are sure to find of interest, especially under the "Somatics" section. Also, you will find the newly published, "The Concise Book of the Moving Body" by Chris Jarmey, with a chapter contributed by Tom.

sig.biostr.washington.edu/projects/da/ - Home of the Digital Anatomists Project whose philosophy is that "anatomy is the basis of all biomedical science," this site features outstanding 3-D computer models of various aspects of the body with a goal to building a comprehensive anatomical atlas as time, and funding, will allow. Be sure to read "Help on Program Use" (near the bottom, under the knee section) to get the most from navigating this fascinating site.

http://www.somatics.de/cranial.htm - Several recent studies have correlated the cranial pulse with vasomotion. Vasomotion (also called venomotion, or
Traube-Hering-Mayer waves) is apparently driven by
the same 'ventral vagus' system which expresses in
Stephen Porges' "respiratory sinus arhythmia" (which he
and John Cottinham used in their Rolfing research
studies). This gives the work with cranial motility a
very exciting link with the autonomic nervous system,
with post traumatic stress regulation, emotions, and
powerful neuropeptides like oxytocin and vasopressin.

http://somatics.de/PathologyBook/Intro.htm - Manual therapists may find this link especially useful, "Pathology: Contraindications and Indications for Manual Therapists."

www.thefamilyoflight.net - An international mobile healing, channeling, yoga, eco tours and educational centre offering apprenticeships.

www.uq.edu.au/~anvkippe/an324/kinanth.html - this University of Queensland Department of Anatomical Sciences discusses Anthropometry, the science which deals with the measurement of the size, weight, and proportions of the human body (Dorland's Medical Dictionary).

www.vesalius.com - Named after the master himself, this site is one of the leading surgical education sites on the web. There is a nominal annual subscription fee, but it a true pittance for the trove of info warehoused here. There are hundreds upon hundreds of beautifully illustrated narrative folios covering almost every aspect of 21st century surgical knowledge, including, of course, an extensive musculoskeletal section. Have a new client coming in who's had a hip replacement? That is one of the many procedures that you can view from start to finish at this amazing, exhaustive site.

www.wie.org - What is Enlightenment? "is a spiritual, cultural, philosophical, and otherwise category-busting magazine committed to bringing a new perspective to politics, business, science, the arts, and the environment. It is also an international speakers forum, an online media broadcast station, and a master’s degree program."

www.wie/org/j22/beck.asp - check out this article on Spiral Dynamics by Dr. Don Beck.

www.yogaalliance.org - The mission of Yoga Alliance "is to lead the yoga community, set standards, foster integrity, provide resources, and uphold the teachings of yoga." From this site, you can locate registered teachers and schools and receive information and applications about registering with them, as well.
