Join Tom Myers in New York City for a special two day courseBodyReading 101: The BreathAnnouncing a special 2-day exploration of visual assessment and touch-guided movement relating to the breath. Our field of exploration will be the visceral cavity from the neck to the pelvic floor, including the movements of the muscles, bones, ligaments and organs. All of these are pertinent to the central question of the ebb and flow of the tidal breath.![]() Understand and feel the movements of each section of the ribs. Learn to enhance these breathing movements (and thus the physiologic adaptability) of your clients and students. This workshop explores paradoxical breathing, so-called chest and belly breathing, and the relation of breath to the autonomic nervous system. We will explore using cueing touch to enhance breathing in the central tendon of the diaphragm, via the axilla (armpit), using shoulder movements, neck releases, and the voice. Learn to identify the many dimensions of movement with the breath (as well as seeing when they are NOT present), and how to cue students and clients into different axes and full participation with conscious/unconscious act of breathing.
