“When, as editor of The Journal of Bodywork & Movement Therapies, I received Tom Myers' article on the Anatomy Trains, in 1996 (it appeared in the January 1997 issue 1 (2) pages 91-101), I was excited by the way my previous knowledge of fascia was instantly taken to a new level. As an osteopath I had long been aware of many of the multiple roles this ubiquitous material played in the body, in which it offers support and coherence to all other tissues, so that everything from the internal cranial fascial membranes, to the plantar fascia can be considered as one unified structure. What I had not realized was the functional nature of the fascial links, and how knowledge of these, which Anatomy Trains offered, could help to explain many of the mysteries as to how distant influences emerged when these were taken into account.

“In addition, of course, there was the sheer poetry and intellectual bravura evident in the writing of what could have been a dry and boring analysis of structural and functional links. The evolution from JBMT articles (there were many more after the first) to the great book that Anatomy Trains became, offers an editorial pride that midwives must experience when introduced to successful young adults they helped to deliver.

“This is a book that contains knowledge that all manual practitioners and therapists, without exception, should understand.”
